Nourishing the Inside and Outside
Aug 27, 2008

After two extraordinary weeks at Asilomar where Erika performed as part of the powerful and talented music team at both the UCSL and ICSL conferences, she left steeped in beauty, inspiration and connection.  Flying from the nourishing conferences and rugged California coast directly to a ten day silent meditation retreat at the exquisite Vallecitos Retreat Center, she dove head first into quiet contemplation.

Stay tuned for the latest album, "Sacred," (recorded with Lisa Ferraro) which made its debut appearance at Asilomar and will soon be available online.  More details and early reviews ahead.

In the spirit of nourishing body and spirit to bring forth the highest caliber music, Erika will be running the Albuquerque Chips and Salsa Half Marathon on September 7.  Join her for the adventure!

On the tour front, she leaves for Turkey in October to collaborate with Turkish artists on the upcoming album that includes 11 songs inspired by the poetry of Rumi.  She will be travelling with Lisa Ferraro and Sheikh Kabir Helminski into the heart of the land that inspired much of Rumi's expression.  The anticipated Italian Tour, however, has been postponed until next Spring.

Before leaving the US, though, she's excited to make a quick return to Texas where she will perform a very special concert on Sept. 20 with her dear friend, Natalia Zukerman, whose talents have been described as "a voice that can coax orchids into bloom and a guitar that can open beer bottles with its teeth." It's going to be an exquisite evening.  Look for more dates on the Events page.

Summer Harvest
Jul 17, 2008

Here's to the long days of Summer and the sweetness of its bounty!  Erika and her musical cohort, Lisa Ferraro, are excited to announce the release of their new collaborative CD, "Sacred."  It will be officially released at the end of July with it's debut presentation at the Asilomar RSI and UCSL conferences.  Contemplative and "soul-dilating" in nature, this new CD contains eight songs including "Breath" and "Peace," as well as the more meditative, "All is Well" and "I Am."

In addition to "Sacred," Erika and Lisa continue unfolding a collection of songs inspired by Rumi. Working closely with Shaikh Kabir Helminski, they are adapting the evocative and timeless poetry of 13th century Sufi poet to music. In October, they will conclude their project by traveling to Turkey and recording with local Turkish musicians.

Hero's Circle:

In an effort to nurture and recognize the remarkable work of individuals around the planet and thereby provide ongoing inspiration to all of us, we like to highlight individuals who are making a difference in the world.  This month we feature Kate Stohr and Cameron Sinclair who founded "Architecture for Humanity" as well as one of their visionary architects, Purnima McCutcheon.  These individuals show how tapping into our creative capacity and matching it with action helps bring valuable transformation for communities in need.  Here's a video clip from a recent Frontline feature that shows some of their work.

New York! New Mexico!
Jun 25, 2008

With the Summer season officially in place, Erika heads to the steamy buzz of New York city where she will perform at the sumptuously intimate, Pan Latin Café, before heading into the transformative nucleus of the Big Mind, Big Heart Seminar with Genpo Roshi and Bill Harris.  This will be the second time she spins her music into the fabric of this powerful event.

Returning from New York to New Mexico, she'll offer a high desert, red earth concert at the Santa Fe Brewing Co.

These are just a few dates before the official launch of her new CD, "Sacred" which  was recorded with the exquisite collaboration of singer/songwriter Lisa Ferraro.  This latest recording offers a collection of eight songs designed for soul dilation and a contemplative journey.

From April into May
Apr 23, 2008

Fresh from the Western tour that carried her through the snowy peaks of Utah into Montana, Idaho and a quick dip into eastern Washington, Erika will be at home in Taos, NM creating music for an upcoming meditation CD. She leaves for an East coast tour in mid May, when she will take time out from performing to join musical cohort, Lisa Ferraro, in recording a CD of contemplative music.  We're hoping to have the CD available for sale by this summer.

A new addition to the Hero's Circle is Leila Fadel, a twenty six year old journalist working in Iraq whose courage, compassion and keen intelligence have not only brought her a series of awards, but more importantly give us a nuanced window to the complex issues unfolding in that territory.
