Seeds of change
Posted by Guest on Friday, Nov 7, 2008
Hello everyone,
I've set up this forum so that we can all be active participants in transforming these very challenging times. Instead of waiting for someone else to make the difference, what can each one of us do to create a change within our own sphere of influence? By stretching our collective imagination and applying our own efforts, we have everything we need to bring about the change we yearn for. Let the brainstorming and action begin!

-Buy locally! Support merchants and farmers in your own community.
-Plant a victory garden.
-Volunteer at a local school or library.
-Read to a child.
-Get to know your neighbors.
-Think of your "enemy" as an extension of yourself.
-Grow beyond your "comfort" zone
-Spend time in nature.
-Spend meaningful time with your family

Hopi Elders Statement

"You have been telling the people that this is the eleventh hour. Now you must go back and tell the people that THIS is the hour. And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!

There is a river now flowing very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold onto the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly. Know that the river has its destination.

The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above water. Look around, see who is in there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves... for the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word "struggle" from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and celebration.

WE are the ones we have been waiting for!"

I agree with many of the things that the previous poster suggested and I would like to add a few more suggestions.

Think and act green. This means walking to the store instead of driving two blocks. Turn the car off if you are stopped and waiting for someone who is going to be more than a minute or so. Don't use plastic or paper bags, get a reusable bag or two to carry your groceries. Buy products that allow you to reuse and recycle, rather than those that are packaged in such a way that you can't do that.

Additionally, when you travel, don't make a mess and leave it for someone else to clean it up and if you find one that someone else made, clean it up. Always try to make things better for you and for the locals.

Lastly, let's all try being polite to those that we encounter each and every day. It is surprising how just greeting each person you meet each day with a kind word, brightens the world that we live in.

Peace,

John

I share with you the letter I wrote and sent yesterday, Nov. 6th. You too have a voice and this amazing internet has given us direct access to the President-Elect. Go to www.BarackObama.com and speak your word. Let your ideas flow and then act. Love to you Erika!

Dear Barack,

Thank you for your note. And, Congratulations on your new position, President-Elect Obama!

Clearly, the American people are ready for your leadership AND to do their part. And here is how I know.

My husband received a brilliant idea and acted on it. His mission: to end world hunger.

And how does he propose to do that? Two cups of soup at a time!! ... for starters!

Since January 2008, when Soup Kitchen Inc. began (from our apartment), we have donated over 5,000 portions of soup nationally to the (now) Feeding America Food Bank network. For every portion of product sold, we donate an equal portion; soup is the first product. Our soup is being served in cafes and restaurants, in spiritual centers and health food stores. We are a mom & pop operation at the moment. We still label and hand pack every pint, gallon and five gallon package, and are minutes away from our co-packer to begin.

We are so happy that people 'get it' and that we can make a difference. If we can feed one person in a day, maybe we've also stopped that person from being cranky and committing a crime that day too. A step toward Peace.

AND, greater than that is back to 'how I know' the American people are ready...because they are already doing the good work. Everywhere we turn and share what Soup Kitchen Inc. is doing, we learn about five more companies like us - people helping others and the planet in so many ways.

Once a month I help bring The Labyrinth Celebration to the men's prison (Calif. Rehab. Center) in Norco to introduce inmates to this walking meditation to give them a moment of peace in their world of chaos - it is profound, one step at a time.

The American people are feeding each other, we are hungry and it is not about food (symptom). We are hungry for the Unity, we are hungry for the love and kindness, we are hungry for PEACE.

AND, YES, we are out here helping each other everyday and we are more than ready to continue to do the work.

AND, now we simply want our representatives to PLEASE catch up!!

Please be sure to keep you and your family first in your priorities, and every step for the nation will follow with ease and patience and grace. The Divine is moving through you.

THANK YOU for recognizing what is present and uniting our nation and showing the world we care!!

NAMASTE'

Choose kindness over righteousness. When you have the choice to be kind or right, be kind.

Put action behind your intentions. Don't have an idea and sit on it. Do something.
I don't mean to plagiarize from corporate America, but Nike was on to something when they say
"Just Do It!"

My passion is in the field of animal welfare. For now my work is to help alleviate the suffering of unwanted cats and dogs through helping spay and neuter as many pets as possible. And to aid in teaching others kind and humane care for all creatures, I am helping to set up an educational program that will go into the elementary schools in my area. Teaching compassion for ALL living creatures is so important. I absolutely believe we can change our perceptions, lose our fears and grow in ways we don't yet even know are possible!

- Try saying "thank you" more often...you'd be amazed how you can make a persons day at the drive-through by making eye contact and saying those 2 simple words.

- Tell the people that you appreciate in your life exactly that! They are usually the first to be taken forgranted.

- Find something that makes you really and truly laugh...check out "McCain's brain" on youtube for instance!

- Learn something new once a day.

- Read!

"Knowing Malia & Shasha will be in the White House"...
what a beautiful thought.
Knowing that we can 'grow up' in a world without limits.

"Losing our fears and growing in ways we don't know are possible"...beautifully said. I too believe that teaching compasion would be a wonderful step in changing social consciousness, thus our world. I am grateful to hear about your work with your local elementary schools. I would like to suggest a wonderful book, 'Kokopelli and the Butterfly' by Michael Sterns. www.grasshopperdreams.com. Good luck with the program.
peace and love,
Jill
