1. Fire
There’s a dry and howling wind coming down the mountain Coming down the mountain is a dry and howling wind Faded curtains billow across the dusty window across the dusty window that looks out across the plain. It’s been twelve long weeks and still no sign of rain Tempers here are growing short and soon these sparks will turn to flame Fighting fire with fire just makes the fires bigger, Fighting fire with fire will burn the house down Old man Bradford living up above route 16 packed his goods in his rusty truck and now he says he’s gonna leave Realized what he had to do when his sister from Chicago called. Came to see when people act this way the biggest room is still too small. chorus Sunday’s preacher didn’t know what to do He started shouting from the pulpit but still his words didn’t get through. chorus |

In my heart I carry a world of dreams, I carry what it means to be true. And in my hands I carry fields of wonder fields of hope, I carry you. And I carry the feel of your breath against my ear the sound of you when you were here the song that you sing to me I carry you, I carry you, I carry you and I hope you carry me too carry me do |

3. Pennsylvania Ave.
There’s a price tag on the white house and I hear it’s up for sale. The king and the queen are moving on and they’ll leave a big space to fill. So they spread the word through the kingdom, queendom have you ever seen them? Lining up to fill the spot. They’re on the talk shows, radio, anyone who’s got the dough and wants to live on Pennsylvania Ave. They’re either rich or famous if they’ve got a place in line So they’ve got some millions to spare and their name recognition is high. It’s all about the cash flow, who you know, what you hide and what you show...if you want to live on Pennsylvania Ave. What would happen instead if a carpenter moved in, pulled out the rotten boards and nailed some new ones in. Maybe a gardener would come down, start digging deep into the ground get muddy planting for Spring and not just doing what works for now. There’s a price tag on the white house and I hear it’s up for sale the pack is picking up speed as it hurries down the trail they’re hungry for the white house, right house, we are gonna fight house, show ‘em off, put ‘em down. You gotta look pretty, act mean, be a part of the machine, if you want to live on Pennsylvania avenue. What if a poet moved in, unloaded a trailer full of words, words of wisdom, words of beauty, words of steel Maybe those who’ve worn words out til they have no meaning left might start to remember what it was they used to feel. There’s a price tag on the white house and I hear it’s up for sale going once, going twice, to the vice grip, tight lipped, beady eyed smile wide.... everybody get ready cause the race is on! |

4. Van Gogh Sky
There’s a Van Gogh Sky and everything seems to be swirling and I’m not sure if my tea is reflecting the sun or the moon. We said that we’d meet the third Sunday in June at our favorite cafe in the late afternoon. As I wait for you, I try to think of how we said goodbye when you tried not to cry and I tried to be strong, but my heart was already gone. It was caught in the net of a short lived affair that promised so much but didn’t go anywhere. We said we’d be friends and we made plans to meet, and oh...your memory is sweet - sweet in the way that takes you by surprise traveling your tongue gently disguised and just before it’s gone you taste what’s most sublime. There’s a Van Gogh sky and everything seems to be swirling do I love you or is it just memories that entertain me late at night when the hum from the heater is all that I hear, when i look at your picture, the one I keep near, the one on the table right next to my bed... Well, that’s what we said didn’t we? Third Sunday in June There’s a Van Gogh sky and everything seems to be swirling now the sky’s gone dark and my tea cup just swallowed the moon. |
"Imagine sitting in a living room, one of those sunken jobs with plush carpet, jamming with Phoebe Snow and Carole King, and then Annie Lennox comes over and you all sing "Stoned Soul Picnic." That's about what Erika Luckett's voice sounds like. Then Ani DiFranco and the ghost of John Coltrane come over with a bottle of tequila and get Al Kooper to take a turn at the organ, and you've got Luckett's music. Pretty soon you're all drunk and the creative juices are flowing, and by the end of the night you've come up with Tinted Glass, Luckett's first solo release, on BirdFish records."
